Translators’ House Wales

Translators’ House Wales is a programme of activity which seeks to raise the profile of literary translation as an art in Wales. It was founded when Wales Literature Exchange formed a partnership with Tŷ Newydd: National Writers’ Centre for Wales to encourage more opportunities for writers and translators from abroad to spend time researching, writing and connecting with the literary scene in Wales. 

Translators' House also enables writers, translators, publishers and audiences in Wales to discover other literary worlds on their own doorstep. As well as residencies and workshops, annual projects include the Translation Challenge, the winner of which is awarded an especially commissioned Bardic Staff at the National Eisteddfod.

Translators’ House Wales is a member of HALMA, the European network of literature and translation centres. Its secretariat lies with Wales Literature Exchange, the literary translation junction, at the Mercator Institute, Aberystwyth University. 

Tŷ Newydd is a historic house located in the Snowdonia National Park, in wooded surroundings, a few minutes' walk from the sea of Cardigan Bay, with the mountains of Snowdonia in the background.
