Desmond Barry was born and raised in Wales. In the mid-eighties he moved to the United States and was based for a time in New Jersey. At present, he is an External Fellow of Glamorgan University Wales. He has spent the summer months in Tibet on more than one occasion. His first novel, The Chivalry of Crime, was voted best first novel of the year by the Western Writers of America. It was short-listed for the Arts Council of Wales Book of the Year Award. His second novel A Bloody Good Friday(2001) is set in Merthyr Tydfil in 1977 and Cressida's Bed (2004) is set in 1930s India.
