Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, Jerry Hunter is Pro Vice-Chancellor with responsibility for Welsh Medium and Civic Engagement at Bangor University. He has also taught at Harvard University and Cardiff University.

He has published four novels for adults. His first novel Gwenddydd (Gwasg Gwynedd, 2010) won the Prose Medal at the National Eisteddfod in 2010. His third novel Ebargofiant (Y Lolfa, 2013) describes a world in the distant future following an ecological and social breakdown. Y Fro Dywyll (Y Lolfa, 2014), a historical novel set in Wales, England, and north America in the seventeenth century was shortlisted for the Wales Book of the Year Award 2015.

His novel for children, Ceffylau'r Cymylau (Gomer, 2010) has also been adapted into English and published under the title, The Cloud Horses (Gomer, 2011). Jerry Hunter has written five academic books; Llwch Cenhedloedd (The Dust of Nations) won the Wales Book of the Year award in 2004.
