Hywel Griffiths lectures in Physical Geography at Aberystwyth University. He won the Chain in the Urdd Eisteddfod yn 2004 and 2007, the Crown in the National Eisteddfod in 2008, and the Chair in 2015.
His volume of poems, Banerog (Y Lolfa, 2009) was longlisted for the Wales Book of the Year Award in 2010. He was selected by Wales Literature Exchange to participate in a series of creative translation workshops organised as part of the Writers' Chain project, connecting poets in Wales and across the Indian subcontinent. Hywel won Translators’ House Wales’ Translation Challenge in 2011.
He editded the volume Byw Brwydr (‘Living a Battle’) (Barddas, 2013), which is an anthology of Welsh contemporary political poetry between 1979 and 2013.
His recent volume of poetry, Llif Coch Awst (Barddas, 2017), contains up to 70 poems, including ‘Gwe’ (‘Web’), the winning poem in the Eisteddfod Genedlaethol in 2015.
