Stephen Knight was born in Swansea on the coast of South West Wales in 1960. He studied at Jesus College, Oxford. In 1992, he won the National Poetry Competition and went on to publish his first collection in 1993, Flowering Limbs (Bloodaxe) which was shortlisted for the T.S.Eliot Prize. He has since published three other collections - Dream City Cinema (Bloodaxe, 1996) which was also shortlisted for the T. S. Eliot Prize, The Prince of Wails (CB Editions 2012); and Sardines and Other Poems (Young Picador, 2004), a collection for children.
His first novel - Mr Schnitzel (Viking,2000) - is one of the most distinctive English-language novels published in recent years and in 2001, it won the Arts Council for Wales Book of the Year award.
Stephen now lives in London where he teaches creative writing at several universities.
