Mareike Krügel, born 1977 in Kiel, studied at the German Institute for Literature in Leipzig. In 2003 her first novel Die Witwe, der Lehrer, das Meer (The Widow, the Teacher, the Ocean) was published. She lives and writes in a town close to Schleswig/Germany. Mareike Krügel was awarded several scholarships, including a stay at the Villa Decius in Krakow. For her novel Die Tochter meines Vaters (My father´s daughter) she received the most promising young author award from the City of Hamburg. In 2006 she was awarded the Friedrich-Hebbel-Prize. Her latest novel Bleib wo du bist (Stay Where You Are) was published in August 2010 by Schöffling & Co.
