Angharad Price to appear at International Translation Day 2014

25 September 2014

Angharad Price 2

Angharad Price will be among speakers at International Translation Day 2014 on Friday, September 26th 2014 at the British Library, London.

Anghard Price’s O! Tyn y Gorchudd won the Welsh Language Book of the Year in 2003. In 2010 The Life of Rebecca Jones, an English translation by Lloyd Jones was published to great acclaim. Rebeka jones er katha, a Bengali translation by Sunandan Roy Chowdhury, and Oh, ridica valul, a Romanian translation by Emilia Ivancu were both published in 2014.

In a seminar titled Migrating Languages, Angharad Price will be in discussion with Darach Ó Scolaí, an Irish-language writer, translator and publisher, Valerie Bloom, a writer and performance poet who uses the language of her first country, Jamaica, to engage with a young generation of Londoners, and Balraj Khanna, whose novel Indian Magic! explores encounters between old and new London. The event will be chaired by Amanda Hopkinson, Professor in Literary Translation at City University.

Now in its fifth year, the International Translation Day symposium is an annual event for the translation community. It is an opportunity for translators, students, publishers, booksellers, librarians, bloggers and reviewers to gather and debate significant issues and developments within the sector, to discuss challenges and to celebrate success.

Presented by Free Word, English PEN and the British Library in association with the British Centre for Literary Translation, the Translators’ Association, Literature Across Frontiers and Wales Literature Exchange.
