Looking forward to welcoming Basque author Kirmen Uribe to Aberystwyth
Wales Literature Exchange look forward to welcoming Basque author Kirmen Uribe to Aberystwyth as part of the Minority Cultures and Travel conference, organised by the European Travellers in Wales project this September.
The conference, held between September 14–16 2015, engages with the nature of the relationship between minority cultures and travel. Its central concern is the interaction of travellers from around the globe with the places they visit and their documented responses over the past centuries. The topic has particular currency in the light of recent events unfolding in Scotland and Catalonia, where cultural identities are renegotiated in relation to national identities, cultural self-expression and political powers.
As part of the conference, Wales Literature Exchange will host, Transatlantic Journeys: Big Cities and Inhabited Islands, where Ned Thomas will be in conversation with the writer and winner of the Spanish National Literature Prize, Kirmen Uribe. They will discuss his novel, Bilbao New York Bilbao, recently published by Seren Books and about what it means to be a Basque writer in contemporary Spain.
Transatlantic Journeys: Big Cities and Inhabited Islands, National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth, 14 September 2015, 7.00 pm.
Tickets are free and available through the National Library website.
For further details regarding the conference, visit the European Travellers to Wales website.
