On Saturday the 22nd of June at Tŷ Newydd Cuban poet Víctor Rodríguez Núñez was filmed reading three poems. Our Translation Challenge for 2013 is to translate these three poems into Welsh or English.
The Welsh-language and English-language winners will be each awarded a Bardic Staff carved form a single piece of wood from Llanystumdwy by Elis Gwyn. The Bardic Staff is sponsored by Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru. Translations should reach us by midnight on July the 22nd. Further information about the competition can be found here. Read about previous winners here.
The Translation Challenge was established by Translators’ House Wales in 2009 to promote and celebrate the crucial contribution translators make to enabling literature to travel across frontiers, and to draw attention to literary translation as one of the creative arts. Translators’ House Wales – a programme of activity to promote creative translation in Wales – was established when Wales Literature Exchange formed a partnership with Tŷ Newydd: National Writers’ Centre for Wales, also in 2009.
