New Welsh Reader publish Caryl Lewis in translation

A translation of a short story by Caryl Lewis has been published in the latest edition of the New Welsh Reader, the New Welsh Review's magazine for creative work.

The short story, ‘Y Llif’ (Against the Current), first appeard in Y Gwreiddyn (The Root), a short story collection, published by Y Lolfa in 2016.

The collection recently won the 2016 Welsh fiction category at the Wales Book of the Year Awards, and was selcted to the Wales Literature Exchange 2017 Bookcase, our annual selection of recent Welsh literary works which we recommend for translation.

The story is translated by Gwen Davies, who has translated a number of works by Caryl Lewis, including her prize winning novel, Martha, Jac a Sianco, winner of the Wales Book of the Year 2005.

The New Welsh Reader have also produced a video to accompany the short story, which includes a Welsh reading by Dewi Huw Owen and subtitles of the translation by Gwen Davies. View the video here.
