Alys Conran appears at the Prozas lasijumi Festival, Latvia
The writer and poet, Alys Conran has appeared at the Prozas lasijumi Festival, Riga, Latvia. The festival is held annually at the beginning of December, to mark the birthday of writer Andreja Upīša. During the festival, various writers from Latvia and guest authors from other European countries including Iceland, Croatia and Scotland presented their latest works.
To mark her appearance at the festival, Punctum, a Latvian web magazine dedicated to literature and philosophy published Lobster, a short story by Alys Conran in Latvian translation. The story is translated by Lauris Veips.
2017 has been a successful year for Alys Conran. Her debut novel, Pigeon, was shortlisted for the Dylan Thomas International Prize, and also awarded Wales Book of the Year.
This is the author’s second visit to Latvia. In September 2016, the author participated in an International Translation Poetry Workshop held in Riga, Latvia, organised by our sister organsiation, Literature Across Frontiers and Latvian Literature, in co-operation with Poetry Wales and Wolf Magazine.
The project was a part of preparations for the 2018 London Book Fair where Latvia, along with its Baltic neighbours, will be the Market Focus.
