The Welsh-language winner of the 2017 Translation Challenge will be announced at an event held by Wales Literature Exchange and Wales PEN Cymru on the Aberystwyth University stand at the National Eisteddfod Ynys Môn, Thursday, 10 August 2017 at 3pm.

This year’s challenge was to translate a poem by Nâzim Hikmet, one of Turkey’s most prominent 20th century poets.

Caroline Stockford will deliver her adjudication, and the winner will be awarded £250 from Swansea University and a bardic staff sponsored by Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru.

The winning translation will be read by Wales PEN Cymru President, Menna Elfyn. There will be an opportunity also to learn more about the work of the organisation in Turkey.

The event is chaired by Mari Siôn from Wales Literature Exchange.
