Wales Literature Exchange will be travelling to Germany next month for the biggest gathering in the publishing world, the Frankfurt Bookfair.
France will be guest of honour at the bookfair held between October 11 – 15 2017. The Exchange will be meeting publishers, agents and translators, and presenting our new Bookcase - our selection of books which we recommend for translation.
During the fair we will be attending the ENLit Network meeting. The ENLit network gathers together European translation funding bodies twice a year to discuss best practice.
Our sister organisation, Literature Across Frontiers will be also be holding the following debate:
The Politics of Publishing Translations
13.00 – 14.00, Friday 13th October 2017
Frankfurt Book Fair, Weltempfang, Salon, Hall 31 L25
Four publishers with an international background discuss the significance, impacts and opportunities of publishing work in translation.
How does the publication of translations contribute to the literary scene in their countries of origin, or add to the socio-political debate in our troubled times? What criteria are used for selecting books? Do they sometimes prompt surprising reactions?
