Patrick McGuinness on the Man Booker Prize Longlist 2011

Patrick McGuinness, a poet and academic who lives in Caernarfon, north Wales, has won a place on the prestigious Man Booker Prize longlist for his debut novel, The Last Hundred Days, published by Seren and selected for the Exchange's Autumn 2011 Bookcase. A literary thriller and poetic evocation of place, the novel is narrated by a young English student in Bucharest during the final days of dictator Nikolai Ceaucescu.

A Professor of French at Oxford University, Patrick's previous publications include two volumes of poetry: The Canals of Mars (Carcanet, 2004) and Jilted City (Carcanet 2010), selected for our Autumn 2010 Bookcase.
