Marta Listewnik’s Polish translation of Un Nos Ola Leuad (One Moonlight Night) by Caradog Prichard has been published by Officyna Press with the support of a translation grant from Wales Literature Exchange.

The translation of the modern Welsh classic has received a warm response in Poland, with reviews in national newspapers and interviews with translator Marta Listewnik brodcast on radio stations and published online. Listeners to Radio Polskie have also been given a taste of the novel through extracts read by actor Łukasz Lewandowski.

Marta Listewnik started translating Un Nos Ola Leuad during a translation residency organised by Wales Literature Exchange held at the National Writing Centre Ty Newydd. During the residency, translators from Germany, Catlunya, India and Romania were introduced to modern classics from Wales, and provided with opportunities to discuss the works with experts and academics, visit places of significance to the works they have chosen to translate, and further their understanding of the literature scene in Wales.

The residency was organised as part of the Schwob project which aims to promote ‘exceptional but hard to find or undiscovered modern classics that whet the appetite.’ The project was supported by the EU Culture Programme.
