Alexandra Büchler and Elin Haf Gruffydd Jones attended the European Prize for Literature Awards Ceremony in Brussels last week to represent the Exchange and our sister organisation, Literature Across Frontiers. The ceremony celebrated the 14 winners of the prize, each from one of the participating countries. The Prize promotes diversity of voices in literature and is a celebration of literature transcending geographical and linguistic borders.
Following the excellent key-note speech given by Finnish author Sofi Oksanen, attendees at the ceremony were able to hear the authors themselves reading from and discussing their work. You can read excerpts of the winning novels here: https://www.euprizeliterature.eu/winning-authors
One of this year’s winners, Jan Carson from Ireland who won with her novel The Fire Starters, will be participating in one of the panels Literature Across Frontiers have arranged for this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair. The panel, ‘British Writers on Brexit’ (1:30pm at Weltempfang) will also include author Patrick McGuinness and Bonnie Greer and will be moderated by Alexandra Büchler.
