Three of the titles selected to the Wales Literature Exchange Bookcase have been shortlisted for the 2017 Wales Book of the Year Award.

The 2017 Wales Book of the Year Award is presented to the best literary works published in 2016, in Welsh and in English, in three categories: Poetry, Fiction and Creative Non-Fiction. The Award is administrated by Literature Wales.

Two of the three shortlisted novels in the Welsh fiction category have been selected to the Wales Literature Exchange Bookcase, our window to recent Welsh literary works which we recommend for translation.

Guto Dafydd’s novel, Ymbelydredd, was selected to the 2016 Bookcase, while Y Gwreiddyn by Caryl Lewis was selected to the 2017 Bookcase. In the English fiction category, Cynan Jones’s novel, Cove, has been shortlisted, a title also selected to the 2017 Bookcase.

The Welsh language judging panel are critic and reviewer Catrin Beard, the poet and author Mari George and Eirian James, owner of the independent bookshop owner Palas Print in Caernarfon. The author Tyler Keevil, the scholar Dimitra Fimi and the award-winning poet Jonathan Edwards are the judges for the English language award.

Each category winner will receive a prize of £1,000, with the main winners in both languages receiving an additional £3,000. The Wales Book of the Year Peolpe’s Choice presented in both languages.

Winners of the 2017 Book of the Year Award will be announced in an awards ceremony at the Tramshed in Cardiff, on Monday 13th November.
