Welsh classics selected for Schwob list
A Toy Epic by Emyr Humphreys and Un Nos Ola Leuad (One Moonlight Night) by Caradog Prichard have been selected for the Schwob list of must-reads from all over Europe.
Schwob looks for modern classics and cult books which haven’t been widely translated. The project is a collaboration of literature foundations in Finland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Catalonia, the European Society of Authors, Paris and Wales Literature Exchange, and supported by the European Union.
The novels from Wales were selected following a recent meeting of Schwob partners in Krakow. Following their selection, the titles will be amongst books pitched to publishers across Europe likely to be interested in purchasing translation rights.
Following the meeting, Wales Literature Exchange and the Polish Book Institute agreed to cooperate to find a publisher for the Polish translation by Marta Klonowska of Un Nos Ola Leuad (One Moonlight Night). Marta Klonowska completed her translation of the novel during the Schwob residency held in Ty Newydd back in January.
