Subirana, Jaume

Jaume Subirana is a writer, translator and scholar. He has published both poetry and prose. His last collection, Una pedra sura (2011) won the Gabriel Ferrater poetry prize. He has written and edited books on Barcelona and Catalonia, i.e. BarcelonABC: A City Alphabet (2013). He has also edited a number of poetry anthologies, and volumes on Catalan writers and literature.

He has translated into Catalan novels (Fahrenheit 451), poetry (Seamus Heaney, Gary Snyder, R.L. Stevenson), essays and lyrics. He is currently translating the poetry of R.S. Thomas and is a Wales Literature Exchange translator in residence in January 2014. His own poetry has been translated into several languages, and he has been invited to literary festivals in Europe and America, and to international workshops on poetry translation.

Associate professor at the Arts and Humanities Department, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, he has also taught at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and has been Visiting Scholar at Duke University and Visiting Professor at the University of British Columbia, Brown University and Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia.
