Translation Challenge

The Translation Challenge was established in 2009 to promote and celebrate the crucial contribution translators make to enabling literature to travel across frontiers, and to draw attention to literary translation as one of the creative arts.

The 2017 Wales PEN Cymru and Wales Literature Exchange Translation Challenge was to translate a poem by Turkish writer, küçük İskender, into English.

Dr Şebnem Susam-Saraeva, Senior Lecturer in Translation Studies at the University of Edinburgh, was announced the winner of this year's competition (English section) and of the prize of £250, at the Wales PEN Cymru event at the Hay Festival.
