John Gwilym Jones (1904-1988) was born and raised in Caernarfon, north Wales, where, after a period in London in the 1920s, he spent most of his life teaching and pursuing his career as a critic and dramatist. As well as numerous plays, he wrote two novels, and The Plum Tree, a selection of short stories. Together with Saunders Lewis, he is widely regarded as one of Wales's foremost playwrights of the twentieth century.
