Llŷr Gwyn Lewis (1987) is a Welsh-language writer and poet. Born and raised in Caernarfon, North Wales, he studied at the universities of Cardiff and Oxford and won the prestigious Chairing of the Bard competition for his Welsh strict metre poetry at the Ceredigion National Eisteddfod (The National Cultural Festival of Wales) in 2022.

Holl Lawenydd Gwyllt / All the Wild Joy (Cyhoeddiadau Barddas, 2025) is his third volume of poetry. Storm ar Wyneb yr Haul / A Storm on the Surface of the Sun (Cyhoeddiadau Barddas, 2014) and rhwng dwy lein drên / between two train lines (Self-Published, 2020) are his other volumes of poetry.

In 2017 Llŷr Gwyn Lewis was selected as one of Ten New Voices from Europe for 2017, an innovative project, Literary Europe Live (LEuL), led by Literature Across Frontiers (LAF).

In January 2019 he took part in a two-city programme of literary debates, theatre, dance and film in Calicut and Mumbai, organised by LAF and Wales Literature Exchange. In 2019 he also took part in a panel discussion, organised by Literature Across Frontiers, at the Frankfurt bookfair.

Llŷr has also published poetry, fiction and articles in Welsh-language periodicals including Poetry Wales, Taliesin and O’r Pedwar Gwynt. He now works as resource editor at the Welsh Joint Education Committee.

His first prose work, Rhyw Flodau Rhyfel (Some Flowers of War) (Y Lolfa, 2014), won the Creative Non-Fiction category in the 2015 Wales Book of the Year award, and his poetry collection, Storm ar Wyneb Haul (Storm on the Face of the Sun) (Barddas, 2014), was shortlisted in the poetry category. An English translation of Rhyw Flodau Rhyfel was published by Parthian in 2021 with the title Flowers of War and translated by Katie Gramich, and was selected to our 2021 Bookcase.

His first short story collection, Fabula, was published by Y Lolfa in 2017, and was chosen for the 2017 Bookcase. His self-published pamphlet of poetry, rhwng dwy lein drên was published during the Covid-19 lockdown and was selected to our 2020 Bookcase, and was shortlisted for Wales Book of the Year Award 2021.
