As part of the Minority Cultures and Travel conference, organised by the European Travellers in Wales project held at the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth between 14-16 September 2015, Wales Literature Exchange in cooperation with the project will host, Transatlantic Journeys: Big Cities and Inhabited Islands.

The conference engages with the nature of the relationship between minority cultures and travel. Its central concern is the interaction of travellers from around the globe with the places they visit and their documented responses over the past centuries. The topic has particular currency in the light of recent events unfolding in Scotland and Catalonia, where cultural identities are renegotiated in relation to national identities, cultural self-expression and political powers.

As a free public event during the conference, Ned Thomas will be in conversation with the writer and winner of the Spanish National Literature Prize, Kirmen Uribe about his book published in the UK recently by Seren, Bilbao New York Bilbao and what it means to be a Basque writer in contemporary Spain.

Transatlantic Journeys: Big Cities and Inhabited Islands, National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth, 14 September 2015, 7.00 pm. Entry free.
