The challenge this year is to translate ‘El Conejo y la Chistera’, a poem by the Mexican poet, Pedro Serrano, from the original Spanish to either English or Welsh.
Professor Richard Gwyn will be judging the English translations, whilst Ned Thomas will be the judge of the Welsh translations. The English-language winner will be awarded £250 in a special event at the Hay Festival in May, and the winning translation will be published in Poetry Wales. The Welsh-language winner will be awarded £250 as well as a bardic staff - once again sponsored by Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru (the Association of Welsh Translators and Interpreters) - in a ceremony at the National Eisteddfod, and the winning translation will be published in O’r Pedwar Gwynt.
An entry fee of £6.00 is payable, and all entries must be received by midnight on the 31st of March, 2016.
You can find out more about the competition, pay the entry fee and view the poem in full on the Wales PEN website.
