A one day conference on adapting and translating in Welsh language Theatr will be held on Saturday, 19 November 2016, at Aberystwyth University.

The conference will examine the influence of translations and adaptations on Welsh drama during the twentieth and twenty-first century. There will also be an opportunity to hear professional practitioners will discuss their work, the process of adapting and translating plays and the importance of translations to the theatre in Wales.

Speakers include Roger Owen discussing Y Brenin Llyr, W.J. Gruffydd’s translation of King Lear, Anwen Jones on responsible translation in relation to Espriu, Primera Història d’Esther and Esther by Saunders Lewis, and Samuel Jones on T. Hudson-Williams, Tshechov and Welsh language drama.

The conference will close with a panel discussion between Gareth Miles, Manon Eames and T. James Jones.

The conference held through the medium of Wales is organised by the Department of Welsh and Celtic Studies, Aberystwyth University and the School of Welsh. Bangor University and the Centre for Cultural Translation, Aberystwyth University.
