In September, the capital of Latvia, Riga, will see the arrival of two Welsh poets, there to take part in the Poetry Readings Festival taking place in the city. Alys Conran and Rhys Trimble will be working alongside two Latvian poets in a poetry translation workshop organised by Literature Across Frontiers. The workshop is part of an exchange project between Welsh and Baltic poets, and arrangements for a publication and a tour are already in place for 2018.
Rhys Timble’s latest publication is Swansea Automatic, published in 2015; his work is renowned for being ambitious and experimental, pushing linguistic and poetic boundaries. Originally from Pontneddfechan in Brecknockshire, he now lives in Bethesda in North Wales.
Alys Conran's debut novel, Pigeon, was published, alongside a Welsh translation by Sian Northey, titled Pijin. She is a lecturer at the English Department, Bangor University. Her poetry has been published in anthologies and in various journals.
Alys and Rhys’ visit to Riga is supported by the Literary Europe Live project. The Poetry Readings Festival is a partner of Literature Across Frontiers.
