To celebrate the publication of a special Welsh issue of Foreign Literature and Art, a leading Chinese review, Wales Literature Exchange and the School of Modern Languages at Bangor University will hold a symposium on literature and publishing exchange between Wales and China on Friday, May 2nd, 2014.

Sessions will include a discussion on World Literature in China and Wales chaired by the new editor of Poetry Wales, Nia Davies, with WU Hong, Vice Editor-in-Chief, Shanghai Translation Publishing House and Patrick McGuinness, co-commissiong editor of Seren Discoveries, while Angharad Price and Francesca Rhydderch will be in conversation with Jon Gower.

As part of the symposium, Wales Literature Exchange will welcome representatives from Shanghai Translation Publishing House, the largest comprehensive translation publishing house in China, to Wales.

As part of their visit, Wales Literature Exchange will organise a series of meetings between the Chinese publisher and Welsh writers, editors and publishers. Representatives will also visit some of our leading institutions including the National Library of Wales and the Welsh Books Council.

This issue of Foreign Literature and Art, guest edited by Dr Yan Ying of Bangor University, is a successful and meaningful joint venture between Shanghai Translation Publishing House, Wales Literature Exchange and Bangor University. We are delighted that, for the first time, contemporary Welsh literature has been introduced to China.

This event is an integral part of Wales Literature Exchange continuous effort in developing links with China and of the important partnership established with the School of Modern Languages at Bangor University.
