On World Book Day Mr Schwob arrives in Wales

Schwob2

On World Book Day 2014 Mr Schwob starts talking about his favourite modern classics not only in Catalan, Dutch, English and Polish but also in Welsh. The Schwob website is available in Welsh from today. The initial recommendations are for Stefan Themerson (Polish), Ota Pavel (Czech), Alvaro Cunqueiro (Galician) and Stratis Myrivilis (Greek).

Schwob presents modern classics, cult books and must-reads that have not yet been widely translated.

The search is supported by a large network of translators, publishing houses, festivals and literature foundations including Wales Literature Exchange who are suggesting titles and contributing sample translations, presented online with background articles and the possibility of purchasing the book.

Schwob pitches titles to publishers likely to be interested in purchasing translation rights and offers them information about funding. It also brings the published translations to the attention of readers - in cooperation with publishers, magazines, bookstores and libraries. At literary festivals in Marseille, Barcelona, Krakow and Amsterdam, for example, European authors will talk about their favourite Schwob titles.

Schwob is a collaboration of literature foundations in Finland, the Netherlands, Belgium (Flemish), Poland, Wales and Catalonia, plus the Société européenne des auteurs (Finnegan’s List). The project is supported by the European Union. The website is available in English, Welsh, Dutch, Catalan, Polish, and soon Finnish.
