Pethe

In a special edition of Pethe, broadcast on Sunday, December 8th 2013, the author and broadcaster Jon Gower visits Paris, to interview one of our Autumn 2013 Bookcase authors, Owen Martell.

Owen Martell, moved to Paris in 2006. The programme provides a flavour of the author’s day to day life, as they visit a cafe where he writes, a book shop, and Parc de Belleville, which overlooks the city. Jon and Owen discuss what inspires an author to write, and the effect of his surroundings on his work.

This year, Owen Martell, published Intermission, his first English novel, selected for Wales Literature Exchange’s Autumn Bookcase, a collection of books selected annually by the Exchange as a window to recent Welsh literary works, which we recommend for translation. Translated into French and published under the title, Intermède by Autrement, a German translation will be published next year by Wagenbach.

Sioned Puw Rowlands of Wales Literature Exchange, who divides her time between Paris and Aberystwyth, is also interviewed. She discusses Paris as a cultural crossroad, and the influence of publishers and authors from all over the world passing through the city.
