Carys Shannon is from rural North Gower in Swansea and works between Wales and Spain as a writer and creative coach. She studied Drama at Aberystwyth University before a career in the arts — first in arts marketing, then for over a decade as a theatre producer with National Theatre Wales, Sgript Cymru, Volcano Theatre Company and other socially engaged projects.

Her short stories have appeared in anthologies from Honno and Parthian and in Mslexia, and she was shortlisted for the Rhys Davies Short Story Award in 2021 and the Terry Hetherington Award in 2012. Truth Like Water is her first novel.
