“Jo Heyde is as fluent in vers libre as she is in her cynghanedd. In this debut collection, she moves between a direct, personal lyricism to a concrete playfulness, imbued throughout with her unique take on the everyday.”

‘It’s not the bridge that counts’, says Jo Heyde in this resonant debut collection, ‘but the crossing song.’
Cân y Croesi (Crossing Song) chronicles journeys back and forth from the south of England to west Wales, gathering small pieces of her new language along the way, her world gaining colour with each crossing.
Jo is a poet who has found her creative home in Wales, and poetic expression in the Welsh language. Having only in the last decade learned the language, Jo has embedded herself both in the Welsh poetic tradition and contemporary scene. This collection consciously draws on the experiences of that formative creative time, the poems themselves forming bridges between her old and emerging cultural identities.
