This new collection of Welsh language poems – the poet’s first such publication for a decade – comprises elegies and eulogies; poems that challenge and poems of compassion, as the poet responds to transgressions against women over the centuries; autobiographical, political and nature poems, and poems inspired by Covid lockdowns. Interwoven with strikingillustrations by the artist Meinir Mathias – whose cover illustration depicts the figure of Catrin Glyndŵr on her wedding day – the collection spans the historical, mythical, and everyday, and is imbued with Elfyn’s characteristic combination of the serious and the humorous.
Menna Elfyn
“Here is a volume that holds to account the cynicism which paints injustice as an inevitability[...] a collection that gives sustenance to hope.”
