Huw Lawrence from Wales is one of thirty authors from as many countries and languages included in the newly-launched Best European Fiction 2016 from Dalkey Archive Press (Victoria Texas, London and Dublin). His short story “Restocking” appears in the original English; other short stories and excerpts from novels are translated into English from languages as various as Azerbaijani and Georgian, French and German, Polish and Rumanian, Catalan and Basque.

Huw has specialized in the short story, having won a Bridport prize and four Rhys Davies prizes. His short story collection Always the Love of Someone appeared in 2010 (Lolfa/Alcemi) and was shortlisted for the Roland Mathias prize in that year. He is reputed to be in the final stages of a long- considered novel.

Wales Literature Exchange has worked with Dalkey Archive Press and the Welsh Books Council to promote authors from Wales since this annual series began. Authors from Wales selected in the past include Penny Simpson, Wiliam Owen Roberts, Duncan Bush, Ray French, Robert Minhinnick and Christopher Meredith.
