"The wonder of this meditative and highly accomplished collection is the author’s ability to maintain the single, fundamental, flowing image of water throughout.”

Jason Walford Davies

Dysgu Nofio

A young father learns to sink or swim in this touching, meditative account of new parenthood. The image of water flows through the collection, tempoed by alternating poems under the title 'Lesson', which depict the course of a single swimming lesson in a leisure centre on a Monday evening. The poems are observant and perceptive, and a single thread tethers each to the other: the experience of parenthood in the face of a climate crisis and the threat of extinction flows, hauntingly, throughout.

Deemed worthy of the award by the judges of the 2023 Crown competition at the Llŷn and Eifionydd National Eisteddfod, Dysgu Nofio is a beautiful new collection – as fragile as it is profound – from one of Wales’ most exciting young poets.
