FFRWYTH
‘Awarded the medal for its broad canvas, its playfulness and its inventiveness’

Ffrwyth(Fruit)

Winner of the National Eisteddfod Prose Medal 2026 - From original sin to generative AI, what is the price of paradise?

Ffrwyth tells the story of Eve – first woman, first mother - in her own words. From her first trippy experiences of consciousness, and her infamous encounter with ‘Sarff’, to starting a family she watches that family growing over millennia to occupy the world with their strange, violent ‘civilization’. But as humans develop new and terrifying technologies, who is this new voice who speaks back to Eve, offering the key to a new garden? After all the years of watching humans ask the same questions and repeat the same patterns, can she resist the friendly, sycophantic voice that seems to offer her all she desires? And maybe more importantly, what does the voice want from her in return?

This philosophical novel responds to the urgent questions posed by generative AI, and how this moment challenges what we think we know about temptation, grief, and faith.
