This remarkable debut poetry collection – written in response to the death of the poet’s brother, Dafydd – is a profound and contemporary exploration of loss and grief. Stunningly illustrated by the artist Elin Lisabeth, Tudur’s writing combines the verve of a new poetic voice with the depth of experience bought on by grief, capturing in direct, deceptively simple poems those sometimes small and always scorching details of loss. From the raw blows of the first few weeks, to the continuing fears, frustrations, and slippages of grieving years down the line, the collection takes its readers on a profoundly moving journey, skilfully weaving childhood memory with adult pain, the rituals both of mourning and of healing. We are pulled, as one reviewer put it, ‘by our humanity’ with her. It is a journey which led Tudur herself to the achievement of the Poetry Award at the Wales Book of the Year 2021. The collection withholds neatness of resolution but, from those darkest depths, Mynd is ultimately a celebration of the force that outdoes even death – love.
